Following a series of Old Navy Commercials and a performance at Old Navy’s “Fit For Fall Fashion Show for All”, the R&B/Pop quintet formed a super-group with Boston, Massachusetts boy band New Kids On The Block (NKOTB). On the co-headlined 2011-2012 NKOTBSB tour, a majority of the set alternated between hit singles released by the respective groups. However, a collaborative song, “Don’t Turn Out The Lights”, and a medley of “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” / “Hangin’ Tough” (Reprise) were also performed by all nine members under the NKOTBSB moniker.
Characterized as ‘white version of Boyz II Men’, the now best-selling boy band’s members originally answered a 1993 ad searching for a New Kids On The Block group with a sound reminiscent of the aforementioned all African-American R&B vocal group. Following a NKOTB lip-sync scandal, the group made efforts to actively showcase their a capella abilities with a rich, polyphonic harmony to distinguish themselves from fellow boy bands of the 90’s.
Most recently, member Kevin Richardson is enjoying the expectation of a second child, while A.J. McLean celebrates a successful hair transplant and Nick Carter supports the resurgence and tour of his younger, fellow pop star sibling Aaron Carter.
N. Carter also reports to Billboard.com the bands new album is ’90 Percent Done’.
